Lorraine thistle is a source of inspiration for Art Nouveau and the Nancy school
It was an artistic movement that only lasted only thirty years from 1884. The arrival of the First World War put an end to it.

Did you know ? "Who rubs it, pricks himself" the motto of Lorraine, date of the time of René II (1451-1508), the Duke of Lorraine.
It refers to thorns of the thistle, then imported from the Angers region.

Today, it remains the motto of ASNL, the Nancy football club and the thistle is also present on the coat of arms of the city of Nancy.
