Patricia urquiola was born in oviedo in 1961, she attended the faculty of architecture at the polytechnic university of madrid and at the polytechnic of milan, where she graduated in 1989 with achille castiglioni as thesis director, where she was assistant at the polytechnic of milan from 1990 to 1992. From 1990 to 1996, she followed the product development department for de padova where she worked with vico magistretti. In 1996, she became head of design at lissoni associati. In 2001, she opened her design office, where she took care of design, installations, and architecture. Among her latest achievements, we find the mandarin oriental hotel in barcelona, the spa at the four seasons hotel in milan… she produces furniture for the most important italian and international companies. Some of its products are exhibited in various museums and permanent collections including those of moma in new york and the museo della triennale in milan. She has won several international prizes and awards, notably the “medalla de oro al mérito en las bellas artes” (gold medal for fine arts), awarded by the spanish government.
