About This Piece

Celestial Music is an original black and white etching on cream-colored paper, realized by Charles-Nicolas Cochin the Elder (1688-1754), the well-known engraver of artworks by Chardin, Watteau, Nicolas Lancret, and active for the Cabinet du Roi. A superb original print representing an angel playing the violin surrounded by little angels on clouds in the sky. The angel is playing amazing celestial music. with strong blacks and a delicate hatching, this is an artwork by a French old master that demonstrates the full mastery of the technique. with inscriptions concerning the author on plate, on the lower margin under the engraved image, " C. N. C. Sc. ". In very good conditions, except for light foxing on the margins, some minor stains on the margins, and a little fold of the paper on the higher right corner of the sheet.
