German designer Sebastian Herkner was born in 1981 in Bad Mergentheim. He studied product design at Offenbach University of Art and Design, where he focused on object and furniture design. He graduated in 2007.
While still a student, Herkner interned at Stella McCartney in London, where he was further educated in material, color, structure, and texture. He established Studio Sebastian Herkner in 2006 in Offenbach am Main. He has since designed projects for clients like ClassiCon, Moroso, Nodus, and Pulpo, as well as interior design projects, museum exhibitions, and trade fair presentations. Since 2007, Herkner has taught several courses at Offenbach University of Art and Design as a visiting lecturer. In 2011, he was honored with the German Design Award in the Newcomer category.
Herkner’s designs combine various cultural references as well as new technologies and traditional craftsmanship, often emphasizing the elegance inherent in the function and materiality of everyday objects.
