Early 20th Century Abedeh Rug

Old abedeh rug with the classic zili sultan "vase and peacock" pattern. Closely related to the motif of ancient origin formed by a tree on which two birds land, it seems that the zil-i-sultan was invented in Persia, at the end of the 19th century, by a dignitary of the court of the Qajar dynasty, its name meaning, in fact, “shadow of the sultan”.
