Etruscan Inkwell in Bronze by F. Barbedienne, 19th Century

About This Piece

Vintage Design

Table in bronze table with brown patina, resting on a curved circular saucer. Neoclassical style, the bulb belly, decorated with rips, palmettes and fridge of Godrons, rests on three feet forming fawn scratches. The dome lid is surmounted by a grip formed by a man's head with a handsome, an antique, ancient face. Decorated with roping crossbrows, he switches to a hinge to discover a tank. A horizontal handle is present to move the whole. The signature "F. Barbedienne" is engraved on the reverse of the saucer testifying to the quality of its manufacture.

Ferdinand Barbedien (1810-1892)
Parisian founder. The Barbedian house is a famous 19th century foundry, which quickly reached great renown for its editions of statues and art objects.
