Vintage Design

This is a great vintage textured art glass vase from Finnish maker Kumela. Graduated colouration from dark, toffee brown at the rim to almost colourless at the base. The vase has a very organic, stone-like texture—the name ‘Kallio’ translates from the Finnish as ‘Rock’ and the four sides of the vessel are almost cliff-like. The rim is well-finished, ground and polished, flat with an even bevel. Design—Kaj Blomqvist, c.1969. Made in Finland by Kumela Oy in the glassmaking town of Riihimäki.
