Large Floor Vase in Ceramic by Richard Uhlemeyer, 1940s

This impressive, large and heavy floor vase (60cm high, 10 kg heavy) was designed by Richard Uhlemeyer and made in his own studio in Hanover in Germany in the 1940s. The amphora-like vase has a turquoise to blue reduction glaze with the crack structure typical of Uhlemeyer, the vase neck has an inner diameter of 13 cm. The soil is met with the Uhlemeyer Ritzmark of the crossed horse heads and "Made in Germany". A object rare in this size with a timelessly modern shape and a unique glaze.

Vita: Richard Uhlemeyer (born October 3, 1900 in Göttingen, † November 7, 1954 in Hanover) was a German artisan, entrepreneur and from 1949 to 1954 the first president of the Central Association of German Crafts (ZDH).
Richard Uhlemeyer visited the Hanover School of Art and Handwerker School and Craftsmen and studied in the 1920s. At Ludwig Vierthaler sculpture.
After completing his studies, he initially worked as a freelancer, then founded a wholesale with handicraft products in 1930 and five years later a pottery, which gained national fame under the called Richard Uhlemeyer handicrafts.
with his entrepreneurial and organizational skills, he managed to take an important position within the Hanoverian and German craft policy. In 1945 he was elected President of the Hanover Chamber of Crafts and four years later as the first president of the ZDH.
During his tenure, he campaigned for the concerns of the medium -sized economy and spoke out against further preference for industry to the craft.
Shortly after his re -election as President, Uhlemeyer died in 1954 as a result of a heartbeat.
