About This Piece

Large oil on canvas signed Albert Charpin (1842-1924) representing a flock of sheep accompanied by a couple of shepherds and their dog, surrounded by a beautiful carved frame.
A student of Charles-Francois Daubigny, Albert Charpin is known for his works illustrating landscapes and rural scenes. His painting is characterized by his natural poses and the serenity of his models, set against a backdrop of early morning daylight and cloudy skies.
In the foreground of this painting, sheep in warm colors graze the pasture grass calmly. Beside them, a shepherd holding his staff and wearing a round hat, walks forward accompanied by his wife dressed in a cape. Behind them, the shepherd's dog watches over the flock.
The sky has soft and delicate tones that follow the shape of the hills on the horizon.
This unique work bears the artist's signature in the lower right corner.
Surrounding the canvas, a magnificent carved frame in patinated wood perfectly matches this pastoral scene. Rich in ornamentation, it presents stylized moldings and sculptures forming arabesques.
Albert Charpin signs here a harmonious and airy work, where nature is presented in a unique way, full of poetry and sensitivity.
