BIOGRAPHY

P.E (Rome 1951) Son of the last Surrealist, Sebastian Matta, Echaurren bears in his cultural DNA that imprinting of the avant-garde that consists in experiencing art as a tool to mutate life, as a magic that is anything but sacred or individualistic, but rather ductile and playful, linked to sociality and everyday life.
In the 1970s, his mark knew how to interpret the dreams of the children of the boom, between beat culture, pop, underground, desire for freedom and political commitment. Today, he draws nourishment from moods and tensions that run through this global village-metropolis world of ours. Raised in the myth of Dada and Surrealism, as well as an avid collector of Futurist first editions, Echaurren began painting at the age of eighteen, when he was discovered by gallery critic Arturo Schwarz, who made his painting known in Italy and abroad. Since then his artistic production has developed under the banner of the contamination of genres, between high and low, art and applied arts, according to an intellectual and manual approach proper to the art workshop, which particularly in Italy has a long tradition, from medieval and Renaissance workshops to futurist art houses. The result is an idea of the artist as an all-round maker and inventor, indifferent to the fences and hierarchies that usually tend to compress creativity.
His works are currently in the permanent collection of a number of museums including, The National Gallery, Maxxi, Macro, Mic in Faenza, Mart in Rovereto, and the Museo del Novecento in Milan.
