Vintage Design

Terracotta sculpture of a sitting German Shepherd entitled Au Repos (immobile) by Thomas-Francois Cartier (1879-1943). It has a patinated bronze finish and dates from the 1st half of the 20th century. A copper nameplate on the front and signed at the tail and numbered 240 on the back, the work received a medal in 1927.

Thomas François Cartier (1879-1943) is the French animal sculptor of this period in all its splendor. As a student at the École des Beaux Arts in Paris, he received the Gold Medal as a resident of Marseille in 1927, he distinguished himself with his felines, carved in a strong and energetic style, often threatening and in hunting position.
